Hero MotoCorp has announced a substantial investment of Rs 550 crore in Ather Energy, a notable player among electric vehicle companies in Bangalore

According to a filing with the stock exchange, the investment is subject to the execution of legal documents and satisfaction of requirements typical of a transaction of this kind. At its meeting on September 4, Hero MotoCorp's board of directors approved an investment of up to Rs 550 crore in Ather Energy's rights issue, according to the filing.

The investment was approved as the electric vehicle maker sought to close a funding round before to its first public offering.


Ather Energy situated it’s electric vehicle companies in bangalore, and ero MotoCorp has invested over Rs 1,000 crore there and currently owns 33.1% of the business. Series E2 compulsorily convertible preference shares are the object of the new investment.


In FY22–23, Ather reported revenues of Rs 1,806 crore, up from roughly Rs 414 crore and roughly Rs 80 crore in the prior fiscal years. It was founded by Tarun Mehta and Swapnil Jain. In more than 100 cities, Ather has more than 1,400 charging stations.


In August of this year, the company sold 8,062 units, a 25.77% increase from the 6,410 units sold in August of 2022. It makes three electric scooters: the Ather 450X, the Ather 450 Plus, and the Ather 450S.In July of current year, it sold 7,858 units. To develop its charging network, Ather Energy partnered with Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited in July.

Caladium Investment Pte Ltd and Herald Square Ventures, managed by Navam Capital, invested $50 million in the company in October. During its most recent funding in October, Ather was valued at $700 million, and it was looking to raise another round to achieve unicorn status.

Electric Two-Wheeler Manufacturers in India Refund Rs 10 Crore for FAMEII Scheme Violation

Ola Electric, Ather Energy, TVS Motor Company, and Hero MotoCorp1 are the four electric two-wheeler manufacturers in India have refunded a total of Rs 10 crore to their customers, out of the Rs 300 crore they agreed to refund.


The reason for the refund is that the companies were found to be selling EV chargers and software as add-ons instead of including them in the price of the EVs, which violated the FAMEII subsidy scheme.

Ola Electric has refunded Rs 4.25 crore out of Rs 130 crore, Ather Energy has refunded Rs 3.97 crore out of Rs 140 crore, TVS Motor Company has refunded Rs 9 lakh out of Rs 15.6 crore, and Hero MotoCorp has refunded Rs 1.64 crore out of Rs 2.23 crore. Source - online news media

Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) recently acquired the Talegon plant of General Motors in India

It plans to begin manufacturing by 2025. Hyundai intends to launch electric vehicles under the Hyundai and Kia brands.

The Talegon plant now has a capacity of producing 1,30,000 units per year. Hyundai will increase output at its second manufacturing factory in Sriperambadur. It intends to achieve an annual production capacity of 1 million units.

HMIL has also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Tamil Nadu government to invest 20,000 crores in the state to boost EV production capacity and establish an EV ecosystem.

Why is it that Okinawa & Hero Electrics FAME-II subsidies have been stopped by Government of India ?

The processing of outstanding FAME-II subsidies for Okinawa and Hero Electric has been halted by the Government of India. Both companies were previously issued a notice last year and are now being investigated for allegedly misusing subsidies under the Rs 10,000 crore FAME scheme, which is currently in its second phase. According to a PTI report, the companies used imported components but falsely claimed they were locally sourced to qualify for the subsidy. In addition to Okinawa and Hero Electric, ten other OEMs are also under investigation, including Okaya EV, Jitendra New EV Tech, Electric Mobility, Revolt Intellicorp, Kinetic Green Energy, Avon Cycles, Lohia Auto Industries, Thukral Electric bikes, and Victory Electric Vehicles International. Krishan Pal Gurjar announced the suspension of subsidy processing for both Okinawa and Hero Electric in the Lok Sabha. He also mentioned that the manufacturers were required to provide sufficient evidence to demonstrate compliance with phase manufacturing plan (PMP) timelines.
