BEVs Not as Green as They Seem
A study by IIT Kanpur found that battery electric vehicles (BEVs) emit 15-50% more greenhouse gases than other vehicles. This is because the electricity used to power BEVs is often generated from fossil fuels, which release carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Additionally, the cost of buying, using, and maintaining BEVs is higher than for other types of vehicles. However, BEVs can be more efficient for taxi operators, who typically drive long distances. In this case, the environmental benefits of BEVs may outweigh the higher costs. Hybrid vehicles are the most environmentally friendly option overall, as they combine a traditional gasoline engine with an electric motor.
